The Friars in Medieval Dublin (Friday 8th November)

A symposium to mark the arrival of the friars into medieval Dublin organised by the Friends of Medieval Dublin and the Dominican Province of Ireland.

In 1224 a group of Dominican friars of the newly founded Order of Preachers arrived in Dublin and established their first foundation, St Saviour’s Priory, near what is today the Four Courts. From there they established houses across the island. This symposium will incorporate medieval chant sung by the friars of today’s St Saviour’s, recreating the soundscape of the original priory and followed by the launch of Bernadette Williams (ed) The Dublin Annals of Prior John de Pembridge OP and his Dominican continuator.
